Tephritid Workers of Europe, Africa and the Middle East meet again
From April 14th to 18th 2024, the 5th TEAM (Tephritid Workers of Europe, Africa and the Middle East) meeting took place at Maritim Crystal Beach Hotel in Belle Mare, Republic of Mauritius. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security of Mauritius, assisted by the TEAM Steering Committee. The overarching theme of this meeting was “Food Security – Securing our fruit for healthy consumption”. This meeting was the first occasion for the fruit fly researchers, students and policy makers from the different regions to meet up physically since 2016, as the previous TEAM meeting (La Grande Motte, France) had to be held virtually because of COVID19 related travel and social contact restrictions.
The 5th TEAM meeting was attended by 126 members in person, while another 28 members attended virtually. Representatives of 34 countries participated in the event. The program of the meeting consisted of three days of oral and poster presentations and discussions, grouped in ten sessions and covering all major disciplines related to current fruit fly research. Speakers could present in person or virtually. In total 50 oral presentations were given and an additional 54 posters were shown. The RMCA was present with four scientists and (co-)authored 20 posters and oral presentations.
Also several colleagues of our partner institutions in Tanzania, Mozambique and South Africa were present, partially funded by the RAAC projects.
The 5th TEAM book of abstracts, together with a link to all the posters presented as well as a photo gallery of images taken during the meeting, are available on a dedicated website (https://team2024.govmu.org/team2024/).
