Collaborative fruit fly research presented at ISFFEI 2026
RMCA and partner institutions contributed to the 12th International Symposium on Fruit Flies of Economic Importance, held in Agadir, Morocco, from 10 to 15 May 2026. The symposium brought together scientific contributions developed through several collaborative research initiatives, including DISPEST, REACT and PESTFLY.
The presentations covered fruit fly surveillance, ecological modelling, diagnostics, phylogenomics, population genomics and pest risk assessment. They addressed economically important species such as Bactrocera dorsalis, Bactrocera zonata, Zeugodacus cucurbitae, Ceratitis rosa, Ceratitis quilicii, Ceratitis cosyra and African Dacus.
The contributions reflected ongoing collaboration between RMCA and partners in Africa, Europe and the wider international fruit fly research community. Together, these exchanges support shared scientific approaches to fruit fly monitoring, identification, invasion biology and risk assessment.
Highlights from the Agadir symposium are also available through the Instagram posts of Jenipher Tairo, DISPEST PhD student and fruit fly researcher with a remarkable 18,000 followers.
